How to care for your Bear Ash Cast Iron

COOKING:

Your new Bear Ash Cast Iron comes pre-seasoned twice over with Grapeseed oil.

When cooking with your cast iron skillet, start by spraying or lightly coating the inside with cooking oil. Warm up the cast iron on medium heat then add your butter or oil for cooking. Adjust the temperature as needed.

*Remember Cast iron holds heat incredibly well and will work best on a medium to medium-low heat for most cooking applications.

CLEANING:

To clean your cast iron skillet:

Always use a Teflon scraper or an old credit card to scrape away any hard to remove food bits. Wash or rinse your skillet under hot water and wipe clean using a soft cloth. Though not necessary, if you wish, you can use a small amount of soap and hot water to clean your skillet. We recommend Dawn. Rinse thoroughly and dry well.

SEASONING and RE-SEASONING:

Before storing, be sure to re-season your skillet – especially after a soap and water cleaning.

To season, simply take a sheet of paper towel and wipe your dried pan with a light layer of cooking oil. It is best to do this while the pan is still warm, typically right after rinsing under hot water and drying thoroughly. If your pan is not warm enough, simply warm it up on the stove on low heat before adding your oil. Wipe away any excess cooking oil and let cool on the stove.

For re-seasoning, Wipe a light layer of canola or grapeseed oil all over the pan (inside and out) -be sure it is a thin layer of oil. Place your skillet upside down in your oven and bake for 1hr at 400°F. Don’t forget to turn on the range fan. Let pan cool in the oven and repeat as needed.

Do not put your pan in the dishwasher or use steel utensils to scrape or clean your pan and never put a hot skillet into cold water.

Keep it Clean. Keep it Dry, Keep it Oiled.
